Cultural Fashion
The del is a traditional gown
made from wool and is worn by women and men year round. Most Mongolians
have several different dels that are appropriate for the different
seasons. The del has a high collar and is multi-colored. It also
comes with a sash and has loose sleeves. Different ethnic groups
wear different shaped dels. Another traditional article of clothing
is a khantaaz, a short jacket made of silk and buttoned on the
side. Also, there are special boots called gutul, made from a
very thick leather and the left is shaped the exact same way as
the right boot. These are more likely to be religious. Another
part of this cultural costume is the head-dress. It is made of
pearls, gold, silver, jade, and coral and only women wear it.
This exquisite head-dress has a weight of 20 kilograms. I'm not
sure about wearing that on my head, but the gold, silver, and
jade sound pretty cool to me.
