Venetia was born in Ketchikan, Alaska in 1904. She grew up in Juneau. She spent most of her life in a hotel. She was not allowed to go down to the lobby and talk to anybody--she had to stay in the room. She is an only child. Her dad died when she was 14 years old in a ship wreck in 1918.
