In honor of National
Counselors Week please honor our
South High Counselors by bringing in items for the gift baskets for each
counselor located in the Curriculum Office. There is also heart notes located on the table with the
baskets. Please drop by and leave your counselor a note of thanks! We will be delivering these baskets to our
Counselors on Friday! Help us thank them for all they do for us and the
South High students!
King Career Center
Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held
on Wednesday, February 15 from 5:15 to 7pm and on Thursday, February 16 from
11:30 until 2:30pm. There will be an informational parent meeting
beginning at 5:15 on Wednesday. All are welcome and refreshments will be
served.
From the Nordic ski team
Last weekend at Fairbanks, several South High Nordic skiers
qualified for Junior National Championship competition in Soldier Hollow Utah
in March. These skiers have competed through 6 races and are in the top 10
skiers of their age division. Give these fast skiers congratulations when you
see them.

Emergency
Trauma Technician (ETT) class will be offered after school @ East High beginning
Tuesday, Feb 21 @ 2:15.
The ETT class will be from 2:15-5:00 pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and
Thursday- until the end of April.
This is a life science credit course with the opportunity for 3 UAA career tech
credits and/or a State of Alaska ETT Certification (good for 2 years).

Seniors
looking for scholarships who will be studying petroleum, chemical, mechanical, environmental
or civil engineering: see Ms. Young in C225 for the SPE scholarship
application.

Principal’s and Commissioner’s Scholarship applications are due in C225 no
later than 2:00pm tomorrow.
Students
planning to attend UAA who need assistance with the University of Alaska Foundation or
University of Alaska, Anchorage Scholarships can get help this Friday during
lunch in the Career Resource Center. UAA representatives will be present to
answer questions and provide assistance. Feb. 15 is the deadline to apply for
these scholarships.
Murkowski
Summer Internship
– seniors may apply for an opportunity to spend four weeks in
Senator Murkowski's Washington D.C. office. For more information see Ms. Young
in C225.
Seniors
who still need SAT or ACT scores to qualify for the Alaska Performance Scholarship
have just two dates left to test. Go to the Career Resource Center for
information/test dates.
College
Goal Sunday – college bound seniors –Free help to file the FAFSA is available Sunday, February
12th beginning at 2:00pm at Bartlett and Service. For more
information on College Goal Sunday go to C225.
Alaska Points of Light
Youth Leadership Institute will
take place during Spring Break. Students in grades 8 – 12 can
apply. This state-of-art training program employs a specially designed
curriculum developed by the Center for Creative Leadership, one of the worlds’
