| Parent Forum Feb.6, 2007 Call to Order 5:10 pm Added Agenda Items student for Temple of the Bean request Steller calculator needs Treasurer Report $7,342.50 in checking 3 new family donations w/ a current total of 77 families contributing $6335.00 Principal's Report *There will be an Artist in Residence during 2 weeks intensive in spring (Theater & Spoken Word) *Mary Schallert, a popular local music teacher, has been hired as the Choir Teacher (M,T, F during 7th hour) *Friday/Saturday, Feb. 9/10 - staff at Padaeia (sp?)training hosted here at Steller *Other staff will attend Great Books training during summer academy '07 *Shannon is hosting a teen sexuality issues class for parents & students @6 pm on Feb. 13th *Larry's configuring 19 new computers in the lab! Keyboarding program available on line for elective credit; working on wireless for entire building. *Rose/Urban Rural exchange - Ken is applying for this for next year *Scheduling visits to elementary schools to share about lottery/Steller ( parents wanting to help should contact Nina) *Open House - Feb. 15th @ 7pm - parents let Karin know if they want to help Directory Committee Report It's done! Copies were put in advisor's mail boxes and sent home w/ students. They went home only w/ students whose parents signed a release to be a part of the directory. Next year, the plan is to input directory information right at the computer during registration. Check on cost to have copies made by a business for next year. Extra copies currently available in the office. Ask for one from the office staff. Old Business *Larry's research about web site management proposal - tabled until next meeting *Auction March 2nd - Auction parents need help getting items from businesses; working on providing real food like pasta, salad, dessert; auction money goes to scholarships/technology/yearbook; $400 seed money to auction - motion made/seconded/approved; pie chart to be made by a student per Karin's request to show the breakdown where money goes *Position Paper - www.renewsteller.org - for results of the meeting/survey held last week and folks are encouraged to join in the on-line blog conversation. New Business Parents reps job needs to be better stated/delineated. Karin will get student/staff input as to what they think a parent liaison can/should do to support counseling groups. Amy will bring the notebook of what's been created already to get us going for the next meeting. Parent from Polaris - parent, school district Capitol Request Advisory Committee, School Bonds yes chairperson - Vote on Apr.3rd! 6 year capitol improvement plan - Steller not on next year's - stuck for 3-4 years in same spot A parent from Steller - TOB (temple of bean), barista (sp?) interested in getting the coffee shop open again; need to use fat free milk, sugar free syrup; need parent supervisor to help in the TOB morning, lunch, after school; Steller parent/Karin will put request out to Steller's News flash; need a working cash register; (Jim was getting paid to teach 7th hour class & supervising kids before/after school); they'd like to do it again w/o a paid staff member if possible. Seed money could come from parent forum - A parent from Steller will write a money request proposal after she gets some help in determining the cost. Shannon - for Natalie (needs 5 more calculators @ $110 each) TI 84 model - motion made to purchase 5 /seconded/ approved for purchase; Treasurer will get a check to Natalie; Susan will research the idea of getting a 2 for 1 w/ Office Max or another business to try to get more calculators donated to match what we purchase. |
