Parent Involvement

Parents need to understand the program, support the goals, and make a long-term commitment to its philosophy. A child’s success is greatly influenced by the support and interest of the parents. For this reason, parents are encouraged to take an active part in the Russian Immersion Program. Parent’s can volunteer in the classroom, take part in field trips, or share their area of expertise with the students or school.

Other ways to enhance your child’s education is to serve on one or both of the school’s parent groups.
MIR Parents Inc. was organized for the purpose of assisting the Turnagain staff on matters relating to the Russian Immersion Program and fostering an understanding of the program in the school and community. MIR Parents is also responsible for funding and planning extra activities such as the student exchange program between Turnagain Elementary and an Elementary school in Russia (to be determined at a later date). This exchange is planned to take place during the 5th and 6th grade years. There are many volunteer opportunities available within MIR Parents. Parents are encouraged to become active members with this group.
The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is a strong supporter of the immersion program. Parents are encouraged to become members and volunteer with this group also. It is important to support the entire school and its needs.
