Ignition!

Ignition is a highly interactive and customized leadership development  program designed specifically to put freshmen at ease and guide them to make constructive and positive decisions during the transition into high school.  The program combines physically and mentally engaging leadership training with effective peer mentoring and an innovative curriculum that targets current issues of relevance to today's schools including:  tolerance, academic success, discouragement of drug and alcohol use, self respect, and many other topics.  This exciting methodology connects freshmen to a group of their peers, to upper classmen role models and to the culture of the campus.

S2S (Student to Student)

S2S, Student to Student,  is comprised of students who act as liaisons to welcome new to Alaska and new to the Anchorage school district students.  Training was provided by the Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC) an organization geared towards advocating for our country's military children ( <http://www.militarychild.org/about-us/> http://www.militarychild.org/about-us/)  Focus is on academics, relationships, and "finding the way", all information given by students to students which establishes immediate peer credibility and positive peer relationships.  School tour, invitation to sit with the S2S ambassador at  lunch the first few days and a later meeting to conference about the  new  students' transition is the core of the WHS S2S program.
