This is your summer research and writing project for ninth grade honors history at West High School. The assignment is to review your skills and check your dedication to the honors level class and is due on the first day of school, August 20, 2008. The assignment needs to be typed and you need to cite your sources with a bibliography. You need to include at least three different sources, only one of which is an internet site.

You need to write a five paragraph essay that defines these traits and applies them to three of the six civilizations you find listed below.

• Sumer (c. 4000 BC - 3000 BC)
• Babylon (c. 2000 BC - 1800 BC)
• Phoenicians (c. 1100 BC - 700 BC)
• Assyrians (c. 850 BC - 650 BC)
• Chaldeans (c. 600 BC - 500 BC)
• Persians (c. 550 BC - 350 BC)

The birth of civilization is the starting point for our studies. Make sure you know the information for the first week of school.
