Alvin Amason has made a great piece of artwork for William Tyson Elementary. Alvin is from Kodiak, Alaska. He received his B.A. in art from Central Washington University and his M.F.A. from Arizona State University.

Sea otter painting.

On display at the Anchorage Museum of Art.

His artwork is some of the finest in Alaska. He even has a piece of his work in the Anchorage International Airport. The kind of art piece that he has done for William Tyson Elementary School is an oil painting of an eagle. It's on a three' by nine' canvas. The wing span is about fourteen feet, which makes the wings hang off of the canvas by about two feet on each end. The eagle's head is three dimensional and sticks out the painting. The eagle's legs and talons are also three dimensional. In the talons of the eagle is a three dimensional hump back salmon. The colors on the eagle are red, green, yellow, purple, blue, sky blue, black, orange, and white.

Another of my favorites of his work is called "My Heart goes Boom, Boom, Boom." It's an oil painting of a big brown bear. I like how the title describes how I would feel if I saw the bear that he painted so well, in real life. Alvin also has some of his art work in museums and is very well known in Alaska. I'm happy to have some of his artwork in our school. If you would like to look at Alvin Amason's web site please click on one of the pictures below.
