On October 3, 1997 a dancer came to our school and performed. Her name is Krista Lamp. She's in a 6th grade class at Wonder Park. She talked about her culture and about her grandmother. She is from the Tlingit Raven Clan. Her mom is a member of the Raven Clan too.
She brought her drums and played a song in her language. She told about how she got her drum. She had asked her grandpa to make her a drum. "Sit here," grandpa said, "You make good grades in school, then I will make you one." But another man had all ready made her one. The next day the guy that had made her one died because he had a heart attack.
Then she passed out some seaweed in a baggie, and she ask the people if they wanted to try some but only 3 people tasted it. It was kind of salty and crunchy and it taste a little like fish.
She was brave enough to stand and.dance in front of kids that she didn't know. And we want to thank her for coming to our school.
