Dance fans.

(These are dance fans from the Anchorage Museum of Art.)

Yupik dancers have special costumes. All of the Yupik dancers wear kuspuks. There is a difference between men's costume and the womens costume. The men's doesn't have a long kuspuk. Instead they have short kuspuks. The women don't have short kuspuks. They have long kuspuks. The dancers have fur and feathers on their dance fans. The women's dance fans look pretty. The mens dance fans are plain. Sometimes they wear masks. Some hats have fur with beads hanging out. Their Moccasins have fur and beads on them too.

Yupik dancing is different from any other dancing. Every dance tells a story. Some dances tell about hunting and facts. These are names of some Yupik dances: We Were Flying in a Plane and We Almost Crashed , Taking a Hot Steam Bath, and Ice Fishing. On some dances they start out slow then go faster and faster. Some dancers that are really good at Yupik dancing start dancing when they're very young. It takes a lot of practice to be a good Yupik dancer. Some Yupik songs are sung in the Yupik launguage. When Yupik dancers perform for people the Yupik dancers do the dance over and over again so no one would miss seeing the dances.
