Hi, my name is Camille D. Zachares and I teach kindergarten at Willow Crest Elementary in Anchorage Alaska.

We learn lots of fun things in kindergarten in addition to the following

"Kindergarten Goals"

Reading Goals

Children will be able to identify upper and lower case letters by name and

cooresponding phonetic sound. We will do a lot with using best"whole language and phonics" teaching practices. The students will..... "show understanding of stories through art, music, and writing...

make predictions about stories from shared reading.......enjoy listening to stories and books.

Math

Willow Crest is using the "Everyday Math" program

Children learn.....basic shapes, colors and sizes ...recognize numbers 0-20 and beyond.....match objects to numbers

Count objects to 100,,,learn skip counting ...by 5's & 10's

We practice recognizing and creating lots of patterns.

Children are introduced to addtion, subtraction, time, money, estimation and making predications.

Science

There are three district implemented units of study,

1."Pebbles, Sand and Silt", 2. Me Myself and Others

3. Balls and Ramps..... I also teach and use situations to teach by student interst. For example

this year we've done units of study on "weather, seasons, spiders (because we kept finding spiders in

the room) and magnets.
