National History Day

National History Day at Dimond

In 2006, A.J. Dimond High School held its first annual National History Day competition. History Day is a national event in which students from all around the country explore an historical theme and create a project on some aspect of history that illustrates the theme. All Freshman completed a project that year, with several of the best projects being sent on to compete at the state and national levels.

We continued the tradition in 2007 and were able to send twenty students on to the state competition. Seven of these students were successful at the state level and went on to compete at Nationals held last June. Dimond has never looked back and we continue to send students on to both the state and national competition each year.

The History Day program provides a wonderful opportunity for Dimond Freshmen to explore an historical topic of their choice at a depth not often possible through the standard curriculum. The program also provides them the opportunity to develop valuable, high-level research skills which will assist them throughout their academic career. We hope to continue the program for many years to come.

In June of 2006, three Dimond High students traveled to Washington D.C. to participate in the National History Day contest. Several thousand students from around the country participated in the four day event. This was the start of a new Dimond tradition
