Dear Mr. President,
I am a student at a Junior High School in Anchorage Alaska. I have lived here all my life. I really enjoy the outdoors. It is such a big part of living in a country that has become to be known as the last frontier.
I am writing to you to find out your views on ANWR. You see my family moved to Alaska before the pipeline was built. In those days Anchorage had many dirt roads inadequate housing and poor utility services. It wasn't until the oil boom of the 70's and 80's that Alaska started to experience real growth. Now that the oil is in decline Alaska is experiencing some difficult times. Opening ANWR would help boost the economy and create jobs. I believe that ARCO and BP have done many great things to enhance oil production with a minimal impact on the environment.
Thank you in advance for taking time to read this letter. I hope you will consider carefully both pro's and con's of opening up ANWR to oil exploration.
Sincerely, Tom Jones return to Assignments Page
