Floor Plan

This is an introductory assignment using a simple CAD program. You will be creating a floor plan of a single-story home. Your plan must be neat and follow these specifications:

Hand draw your floor plan	20
Your assignment must be named "your last name, your first name floor plan" (i.e. Arend Tina Floor Plan)	5
The floor plan must be drawn in the (X,Y) quadrant (i.e. the Red, Green quadrant)	10
Your home must be one story and 1000 square feet	10
Your home must have:
a front door	2.5
a back door	2.5
a kitchen (including counters, sink, stove, refrigerator, 1 or more windows)	5
a living room (including 4 or more pieces of furniture and 1 or more windows)	5
a bathroom (including door, counter, sink, tub/shower, and toilet)	5
two bedrooms (including a door, closet, bed, nightstand, and 1 or more windows in each)	10
You must include at least 15 labels (1 pt. each) such as bathroom, couch, closet, stove, etc.)	15
You must use color/texture fills for at least 20 items (.5 pt. each) in your floor plan (wood for a table; a pattern for a couch; a color for a countertop, etc.)	10

Building specifications for your home:

Exterior doors (front and back doors) are typically 36" wide
Interior doors (bedroom and bathroom doors) are typically 30" wide
Kitchen counters are typically 25" deep

Calculating square footage:

Length x width = square footage
Make sure that you have set your measurements to feet (under SketchUp Preferences).
If your home is L-shaped (or anything besides rectangular or square) you must calculate the square footages for each rectangle or square and add them together.

Helpful hints:

Walk around your home and pay attention to details such as where bedroom doors are placed, how a kitchen is set up, etc.
Think about the layout of your home and consider traffic flow (how you move from one room to another).
Measure things in your home (couches, refrigerators, dining room tables, beds, etc.).
Notice conveniences like an entryway with a coat closet, a laundry room, or a pantry.
Ask a parent or another adult to check your floor plan and give you suggestions.
