The mission of the Educational Technology Department is to support schools in the use of technology as a tool for learning by providing staff development, instructional support, resources, technology planning and opportunities that empower students and staff.

This is my second year with the Educational Technology Department. I was a classroom teacher for many years and have taught in Colorado, Indiana and (of course) Alaska. This is my 13th year with ASD and for 10 of those years I had the opportunity to be a Math and Literacy Support Teacher. I was also my building's Building Tech Contact for 4 years.

I enjoy being part of the Educational Technology Department and am excited about working with your school again this year. Some of the ways I will be supporting the use of technology in your school is by creating and updating computer images, providing on-site staff development, assisting your Building Tech Contact person and being a resource to help make the integration of technology at your school more effective.

This promises to be a year of change. New resources (net Trekker and Discovery Streaming) that were piloted last year in a few schools are available across the district now. With the purchase of new student Intel iMacs, we now have at least 1 computer for every 5 students throughout the Elementary, Middle and Secondary schools. With the new computers, we are moving from Tiger (10.4) to Leopard (10.5) and leaving the classic Apple apps. behind. To make it possible for the student eMacs to move into Leopard as well, RAM is being purchased so all of them will have 1GB.
