Mrs. Frantz: Social Studies 7: Syllabus & Supplies
I would like to welcome parents and students to Room 334. Teachers, parents, and students are equal members of a team and should work together to ensure academic success. It is my goal to create a good study environment at school to help students get organized and stay on task. It is my hope that parents will also provide an equal environment at home and that we are consistent with our expectations.
I appreciate communication. If you see any frustrations at home, please let me know. Your support is essential and I wish to keep you informed. A parent volunteer survey will be handed out in the future so think about if you would like to come in and help or how you could help at home. This year we will be studying the Western Hemisphere, then the Eastern Hemisphere of the world. I am interested in using parents & friends as resources. If you have expertise, visited or lived in a foreign country, and would be willing to share slides and/or experiences, please let me know. I am also interested in taking any old National Geographic magazines that you might wish to get rid of.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: During the first day, students received a GOLDENVIEW PLANNER. On Monday, students will be informed of all assignments and due dates for the week. These weekly assignments and dates due need to be written down in the GOLDENVIEW PLANNER and parents should expect to see what homework has been assigned for the week when their child gets home on Monday. It is my hope that this GOLDENVIEW PLANNER will help students organize their time and keep you up to date with my expectations. Please sign the PLANNER each week by Friday.
EVALUATION: GRADING SCALE: GRADES WILL BE BASED ON 90-100% = A THE TOTAL POINTS EARNED 80- 89% = B BY EACH STUDENT. 70- 79% = C 60- 69% = D Below 59% = F
HOMEWORK/LATE WORK: Homework will be assigned as we progress through the quarter. Late work will not be accepted. We want students to become accountable and responsible for work assignments, and to learn how to work within deadlines.
ABSENCES: For every day you are absent (excused absences only) you are allowed one-day make-up work. No make-up work is allowed for unexcused absences.
EXTRA CREDIT: If you desire to do an extra project, please see Mrs. Frantz for approval before you begin. Other opportunities will be offered for extra credit.
STUDENT SUPPLY LIST It is my goal to help you make sure students have all the supplies at school that they need for working, learning and succeeding. As soon as possible, your child needs to bring:
1) A FILING SYSTEM! I plan on completing a variety of writing assignments and it is my objective to improve organizational skills. It is important to begin the year off developing a personal system for filing all work and learning aids so that students always know where materials are. For this reason, it is important to get either a "Trapper Keeper", separate folders for each subject, a notebook with tabs, or another organizational system that seems to work best for the student. 2) MASS QUANTITIES OF PAPER! I suggest getting one ream of five hundred sheets. It is not only more economical, but paper can be divided between home and school so students always have supplies to work with or to replenish low stock. 3) ONE DOZEN #2 PENCILS! It's amazing how quickly these are used, chewed, digested, guillotined or lost. They must be in class and it's frustrating when the same students borrow from others. 4) 2 INK PENS 5) 1 ERASER 6) 1 SEPARATE COIL-LESS NOTEBOOK (not Spiral): College Rule 7) 1 BOX OF KLEENEX TISSUE (To be shared with the class)
In closing, this is going to be a very exciting year where all of us will be learning and growing. I will try to keep you periodically informed about the activities going on in class. If you ever have any questions or concerns throughout the year, please feel free to contact me and we can set up an appointment.
I'm looking forward to meeting everyone. You all have GREAT kids! I again want to encourage parents to take an active role in your child's school year, whether it is helping with homework, brainstorming together on creative projects, going to the library to check out books, or simply spending a few minutes at the end of the day reading with each other. NO ONE IS TOO OLD TO ENJOY BEING READ TO!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Frantz
---------------------------(CUT/SIGN/RETURN)---------------------- THANK YOU! I have read your synopsis and we will do our best to get materials.
