Hello and welcome to a new and exciting school year. My name is Eric Holta and I will be teaching Study
Skills & math for the 2008-2009 school year. My study skills class will be used to teach new study skills and
strategies to help students become more effective learners. In addition, time will be given to help students
understand and complete homework from other classes.
Students will be required to bring the following items to class each day:
--A medium-to-large sized 3-ring binder notebook (small rings do not hold enough material) with subject
dividers for each of their classes (pouch folders are O.K. for graded work but are extremely difficult to
keep organized).
--Daily Planner/Assignment calendar (provided by teachers)
--Paper, pencil, pen, and calculator
--Work from core classes
In addition, students will need to bring materials necessary to complete any assignments for elective
classes. Notebooks will be randomly checked for completeness and organization. Parents-- you can
greatly increase your child's chances of success by checking their daily planners to be aware of what
their assignments are and the status of these assignments. In addition, encourage them to study in a quiet
and well-lighted location, to take notes, to set a daily study schedule and to take brief breaks when
needed.
