Our department
is committed to offering trainings for ASD employees on topics
related to special education. We strive to provide these through
various training methods to help meet the needs of all educators.
The trainings we offer online can be accessed through the following

A collection of modules designed to
assist Anchorage School District staff in entering the content
of IEPs:
Goals
and Objectives
This module defines information to include when writing quality
goals and objectives.
Progress
Reports
This site contains key information regarding completion of quarterly progress
reports for students with IEPs.
Intensive
Level Reference
A reference site clarifying where to document
criteria within the IEP program for Intensive Level funding.
Manifestation
Determinations: Report Procedures
Step-by-step instructions for completing the written

Manifestation
Determinations: The Process

SPECIFICALLY
FOR PARAPROFESSIONALS |
These
six hour trainings are designed for paraprofessionals (but
open to anyone) and offered through the State of Alaska DEED.
These all meet requirements for PSP hours. Optional credit
hours are available through APU. These sites are managed
outside of the ASD. Be sure to:

Adapting
Teaching Techniques to Meet Individual Needs
This training covers:
- Effective teaching strategies and learning
theories

Introduction
to Special Education
This training covers all topics required for those just hired, but is
available for everyone. It can be taken in lieu of the face-to-face 6
hour mandatory training called Overview of Special Education offered
by our department. This covers:
- Roles and responsibilities
- Understanding the Public Law
- Disabilities
- Purpose and application of the IEP
- Applying appropriate teaching strategies

Supporting
Positive Student Behavior
This training teaches:
- Methods for helping students develop positive
self esteem
- Steps surrounding an IEP
- How to use IEP information
- What Functional Behavioral Assessments are
- What Behavioral Intervention Plans are
- An overview of a School-wide Positive
Behavior Support model

SPED
Eligibility Categories
New in 2007, this training
provides information on the 13 special education eligibility
categories. Learners will have
the opportunity to:
- Understand the specific eligibility criteria
- Learn about accommodations and modifications
for the classroom
- Identify different types of teaching techniques
- Gain knowledge of available community supports
and assessment options

Information |
Many of the online trainings offered
through our department now require you to mark yourself complete
in MLP. It will be noted within the training if you need to. Online
and printable directions for marking yourself complete are available
by clicking on this button.

There are a few of our online trainings
that require our office to mark you complete in
MLP. For these, it is important to note that this will occur after
the end of each quarter and
the class title will move to the "completed" portion
of your portfolio at that time. It is your responsibility
to sign up for the trainings on MLP.
