Let students’ strengths, not struggles, determine the outcome of their work

Reading

A strong reader is able to incorporate a large number of concepts and tools to decipher unknown words and to recognize previously encountered ones. The student understands what has been read and links the concept of the passage with previously acquired information. If any of these areas proves weaker than the others, it can significantly hinder the reading process for the student. As much of the information we obtain in school and life is through reading, it is imperative to help students develop these skills and to provide tools to assist them in areas that may be hindering their progress. Options for supplemental supports to a strong systematic reading program can help to provide a continuum of services for all students.
