LIBRARY PROGRAMS

Library Program Focus

Primary Level (K-3rd): Involves lessons regarding learning to love literature; what book authors and illustrators do; the organization of libraries; studying parts of books--all of which prepare them for citing sources and learning basic research skills.

Intermediate Level (4th-6th): Includes more advanced research
skills (finding appropriate topics, locating resources, citing sources,
using databases, incorporating technology into projects, etc.); Internet
safety and evaluation; and literature appreciation.

Our #1 motivational reading program is BATTLE OF THE BOOKS. This program is lots of fun and a great opportunity for the students to interact with other students and to represent their school as well as exposing them to many good books.

We also have been “raising” a Library Dragon!
The students have to read a certain amount
in order to earn scales to make the dragon
grow bigger. Ask your child about our dragon friend.

Once a year the ASD librarians sponsor a BOOKMARK CONTEST where all students are encouraged to create a special bookmark that enters into school competition first and then district competition for Inlet View winners. A display of all bookmarks submitted is created and decorates our library for much of the school year.
