Read the daily SAHS Student Bulletin for additional information about scholarships, special programs and events. Special programs and events (including internships), jobs and college visits at SAHS are also listed at the end of this web site.

Check daily in the CRC for new materials, which may not be on this update at the time of publication.

• FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is required to be filed to receive any low interest loans.

• AKCIS (Alaska Career Information System) To log on to AKCIS: Go to http://akcis.intocareers.org.   You can now logon to AKCIS using USERNAME: asdsouth, PASSWORD: 4akcis.  Use the AKCIS Quick Start tutorial, found under the Additional Resources heading in the lower right of the home page, to become familiar with the system.  There are four computers in the CRC which you may use to check out AKCIS.

• Visit www.college-visits.com <http://www.college-visits.com>  to learn how to take a tour of college campuses.

• Check for scholarship DEADLINES, and get your scholarship applications in on time.  See Ms. Suetopka-Duerre in the Career Resource Center (CRC), if you need any assistance or to pick up an application.  Most scholarship applications can be downloaded from the scholarship website.

Procedure to use the information provided below:

To find scholarships or programs listed below, see Ms. Suetopka-Duerre in the CRC, call, send for or go to the website listed.  Late scholarships that come in after this website has been updated are available in the CRC. Check the SAHS Student Bulletin for announcements about these unpublished scholarships.  You may stop by the CRC at any time to check what has come in recently.

REMINDER:  This website list of scholarships is only a small portion of scholarships that are available.  There are additional resources in the CRC (computer, books, etc.).  Bookstores and libraries also have resources.  Use as many sources as you can because no single resource exists for all scholarships, grants or awards.

If you have any problems with the Internet addresses listed, use a search engine such as Google to locate information about that particular item.  Programs can change their URL addresses.  Notice of an address correction may not have been received by the high school.

NOTE:  Please follow deadlines, directions, and description listed on the original application.  The group or organizations sponsoring the scholarship program have the final say.

SCHOLARSHIP PORTFOLIO: The next scholarship portfolio workshop will be held on Tuesday, December 4, 2007, during lunch time. The workshops are open to all students. Seniors can start turning in their portfolio and three copies (in flat binders) to the CRC beginning January 25 to Feburary 8, 2008. Local committees will review those portfolios on file and determine who should be awarded scholarships.
