To Backup your Internet Browser Bookmarks (Windows)
Browsers save all of your bookmarks in either a single file, or a single folder. By copying this file or folder, you can move your bookmarks to any computer you wish or just make a backup in case you ever need one..
If your bookmarks don't "follow you around" then you can save them and paste them into any new computer at which you start work.
To make a copy of your Internet Explorer (Windows) bookmarks for later use:
- Log on to a Dell under your own account
- Select My Computer .
- Open the C: drive and then open the Documents and Settings folder
- Open the folder with yourLastname_yourFirstname
- Click once on the Favorites folder and drag it to your desktop. This will make a new copy of the folder. You may leave it there or move it to some other place. If you log into another computer, it will be right there on your desktop.
- After you log into another computer, Copy this folder to the same place. If asked about replacing files with the same name, say that it is OK to do that..
For Firefox (Windows) try
This isn't hard, but there are several steps. You need to copy a 'hidden' file
- Navigate to My Computer / C: drive / Documents and Settings / the folder with your name
- From the Tools menu, select Folder Options and the View tab
- Select 'Show hidden files and folders' and click OK
- Open the Application Data folder and drag the Mozilla folder to your desktop. This makes a copy of it.
- From the Tools menu, Folder Options, View, select 'Do not show hidden files and folders'
- You have backed up your bookmarks
- To restore them on another computer, go to the same place. (change options to show hidden files, Application Data, etc.)
- Delete the Mozilla folder from the Application Data folder.
- Drag the Mozilla folder from your desktop into the Application Data folder.
- Hide hidden files and you are done.
