To Backup your Internet Browser Bookmarks (Macintosh)
Browsers save all of your bookmarks in either a single file, or a single folder. By copying this file or folder, you can move your bookmarks to any computer you wish or just make a backup in case you ever need one..
If your bookmarks don't "follow you around" then you can save them and paste them into any new computer at which you start work.
To make a copy of your Safari (Macintosh) bookmarks for later use:
- Log on to a Macintosh under your own account
- Double-click on the Macintosh HD and then click once on your name on the left side of the window.
- Select the Library folder
- Open the Safari folder
- Hold down the Option key and click on the file named Bookmarks.plist. Drag it out onto the desktop. This will make a new copy of the file.
- Leave the file on your desktop or place in your documents folder.
- After the transition, place this file into the UserName / Library/ Safari folder of any computer that you use and your bookmarks will reappear.
For Firefox (Macintosh) try
- Log on to a Macintosh under your own account
- Double-click on the Macintosh HD and then click once on your name on the left side of the window.
- Select the Library folder
- Open the Application Support folder
- Hold down the Option key and click on the folder named Firefox. Drag it out onto the desktop. This will make a new copy of the file.
- Leave the folder on your desktop or place in your documents folder.
- After the transition, place this file into the UserName / Library/ Application Support folder of any computer that you use and your bookmarks will reappear.
