What's a Plug-In? (Check fancy sites beforehand...)

If you are bringing your class into the computer lab to go to a web-site that does something 'fancy,' you might want to check it out ahead of time. Sites that have movies, interactive activities, etc. frequently require special little programs that run 'on-top-of' the browser. While we try to stay up on these, they are constantly changing and we usually find out about them after a class attempts to do something new.

You also might try different browsers - sometimes FireFox will work when Internet Explorer and / or Safari do not. And vice versa.

Also, do not assume that if it works on a Dell, it will work on a Mac, or vice versa.

If your students are offered a chance to install the plug-in, you are welcome to have them try. On Macs, it may install it in the students' account (using up their space). This may work, but it likely will slow things down significantly and is not a good, long-term solution.
