What is AP Art History?


  1.   The goal of A.P.  Art History is to teach students to  appreciate and evaluate art through analysis after viewing works through readings, research, digital images, videos and museum visits.

  2.    Students will examine and critically analyze major forms of artistic expression from the prehistoric era to the modern age utilizing a variety of methods and techniques. 

  3.    The class will focuses on visual critical thinking strategies and developing an understanding and knowledge of diverse historical and cultural contexts of architecture, sculpture, painting, and other media. 

  4.    Art history emphasizes the how and why works of art function in context, considering such issues as patronage, gender, ethnicity, political and social currents, and the functions and effects of these works on depicting or challenging conventional norms or mores of a society at a particular period in time.

A.P.  Art History is a year-long course.  ASD will award 0.5 social studies elective credit and 0.5 credit general elective credit upon successful completion.
