ALASKA PERFORMANCE SCHOLARSHIP: Go to www.APS.alaska.gov to sign up for updates on the Alaska Performance Scholarship Program (also known as the Governor's Performance Scholarship). Proposed by the Parnell Administration and approved by the Alaska Legislature, the Alaska Performance Scholarship was created in 2010 as an invitation to excellence, extended to Alaska students and schools.

10/05/2011 US SENATE YOUTH PROGRAM: Two Alaska High School students will receive a $5000 college scholarship and a visit to Washinton DC March 3-10, 2012. Open to High School juniors and seniors now serving as duly elected officers in student government, in a student council, or as a class officer; Principal selects ONE candidate for state-wide competition. 10/30/2011 HORATIO ALGER SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: This scholarship program provides financial assistance to students throughout the nation who have financial need and have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity. 10/31/2011 COCA-COLA SCHOLARS PROGRAM 2011-2012 (Two-Year and Four-Year Scholarships): $3 million is awarded annually to 250 students; regional scholarship is $10,000. 11/01/2011 OMEGA PSI PHI FRATERNITY, INC. National High School Essay Contest. Contest is open to all College-bound, High School Seniors. The essay must be entitled: "The impact of social media on the advancement of social and economic issues in the United States and the world". The essay must be between 700 and 750 words in length. 11/01/2011 PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARDS: If you've made a difference through volunteering over the past year, you could win$1,000 and a fabulous trip to Washington, D.C., next May by applying for a Prudential Spirit of Community Award! Even more importantly, you could win recognition that might inspire other young people to follow your example. These prestigious awards, sponsored by Prudential Financial and the National Association of Secondary School Principals, have honored more than 90,000 middle and high school students at the local, state, and national level over the past 15 years solely for their volunteer work. SAHS can select two local Honorees for this prestigious award.

11/05/2011 AASP/BP PROCESS TECHNOLOGY SCHOLARSHIP/BP and ALASKA PRINCIPAL FOUNDATION: Up to five two-year scholarships valued at $12,000. This scholarship is available for a high school SENIOR who is intending to enroll or who is currently enrolled in the Process Technology two-year degree program offered at UAA, UAF or Kenai Peninsula College. Applications will be screened for completeness and interviews of the top candidates will be scheduled. 11/22/2011 ACLU OF ALASKA FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Joan Hamilton Memorial Scholarship will award up to $2,500 per academic year to fund college, graduate, and vocational studies with renewal awards available upon application. Applications may be submitted by high school seniors or college or vocational students who wish to pursue a career related to the law, become advocates of Alaska Native rights, and defend the constitutional rights and civil liberties of the peoples of rural Alaska. 12/01/2011 AXA ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP: $10,000 scholarships to 52 students, one in each state, DC and Puerto Rico; $15,000 additional scholarship to 10 national recipients. 12/01/2011 VIOLET RICHARDSON SOROPTIMIST AWARD: The Violet Richardson Soroptimist Award is for young women between the ages of 14 and 17 who volunteer in their community or school. Volunteer actions that benefit women or girls are of particular interest. The Award program begins at the local Soroptimist club level, where the type of award varies. Club level winners then become eligible for one of 28 $1000 awards. In addition, $1,000 will be contributed in honor of these winners to their volunteer organizations. One finalist will be chosen from among the 28 winners for an additional award, including a contribution of $2,500 to the finalists volunteer organization. 12/31/2011 BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU STUDENTS OF INTEGRITY SCHOLARSHIP: The Students of Integrity Scholarship offered by BBB Foundation, is designed to support students who recognize the importance of ethical and responsible marketplace practices. A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded by BBB Foundation to one student in each state of Western Washington, Oregon and Alaska. GPA of 3.5 or higher, essay, letter of recommendation and form required. 12/31/2011 ALASKA TRIATHLON CLUB SCHOLARSHIP: One $500 scholarship will be awarded to each, one male and one female. At least two years documented involvement with triatholon prior to application deadline, including participation in at least 4 triatholons, Juniro or Senior in high school or currently attending college and no older than 20 years of age by December 31 of the year of the application. 01/20/2012 MARY & LUCIAN CASSETTA MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION: $1,000 Scholarship. The Anchorage Symphony Orchestra extends an invitation to south central area high school music students to participate in the annual Mary and Lucian Cassetta Music Scholarship Competition. This year's competition will be held on Thursday, February 2, beginning in the late afternoon at the Sydney Laurence Theatre of the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts. The competition is open to high school SENIORS who display talent, dedication to music and a serious commitment to an advanced study program in a recognized music school or music camp. Competition is open to both instrumentalists and vocalists. 01/24/2012 ALASKA ENGINEERING EDUCATION FOUNDATION: One $2000 AEEF Scholarship from all state-wide applicants; one $1500 ASPE Scholarship from all state-wide applicants; one or more ASPE Regional Engineering Week scholarships that vary in quantity and amount based on fundraising efforts in each of the three state regions: Anchorage, Juneau, and Fairbanks. Alaska Alumnae Chapter Scholarship for 2012 Minority High School Graduating Seniors: Scholarships are awarded based on academic performance, personal essay, honors and activities, letters of recommendation and financial need. The award will not exceed $1,000. Must be a 2012 ASD minority high school graduating senior, possess a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale and plan to enroll in a postsecondary school/college/university for the 2012-2013 academic year. Required: Application (see Ms. Young in C225 for application); Official Transcript; three letters of recommendation; essay of at least 300 words, but not to exceed 400 words; current photo 2 x 3 inches.
02/27/2012 ELMENDORF OFFICERS' SPOUSES' ORGANIZATION: The Elmendorf OSO scholarship program is open to all graduating high school seniors who are the son or daughter of an active duty or retired active duty member. The active duty military member and/or family must live in the Anchorage area. The Anchorage area is considered to be from Wasilla/Palmer to Girdwood. This includes students whose parents are divorced. A student living with a parent who has married a military member, who provides support, even if not adopted by the service member, is also eligible. Applicants must have a current military ID card, must be a US citizen and have at least a cumulative 3.0 GPA. Rank is not a consideration.
Selection of recipients is based upon scholarship, leadership and citizenship. Our goal is to choose students who are recognized as well-rounded individuals. Scholarship criteria includes GPA, SAT/ACT score, difficulty and variety of classes, as well as Honors and Advanced placement classes. Activities in and out of school will be taken into consideration, such as offices held, honors, awards, work experience, etc.
While need is not considered in the selection process, a recipient may not also accept a four year full tuition scholarship or an appointment to a service academy. 02/29/2012 AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF DRILLING ENGINEERS: Scholarship awarded by the American Association of Drilling Engineers is contingent upon the recipient being officially registered at an Alaskan high school and planning to enroll in a curriculum leading to an undergraduate degree in petroleum engineering or related engineering discipline. Applicant must be a graduating senior at an Alaskan high school or home school and intend to enroll at the University of Alaska, Anchorage, Fairbanks or Southeast branch. 03/01/2012 SIMON YOUTH FOUNDATION COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP: Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of financial need, academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, statement of goals and aspirations, and an outside appraisal. Unusual personal or family circumstances will also be considered in the selection process. Financial need of up to $1,400 as calculated by Scholarship Management Services must be demonstrated for the student to receive an award. Applicants must attach a copy of page one (1) of the parents’ tax return Form 1040.
Eligibility Criteria: High school seniors attending school and living in proximity of a Simon Property Mall or Community Center.
Planning to enroll no later than fall 2012 in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school. Employees or family members of employees of Simon Property Group and affiliated partners are not eligible for this program.

03/01/2012 GILLAM FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: The Gillam Foundation provides a 1-year scholarship to graduating Alaskan high school seniors to be used in their first year of study at a 4-year college or university. Awards of up to $10,000 have been granted. To be eligible, applicants must be graduating from high school in the current academic year, a State of Alaska resident, and accepted to enroll full-time in a 4-year college or university during the first fall semester immediately following their high school graduation. Applicants should intend to pursue coursework in a global commerce field including, but not limited to: business administration, economics, accounting, finance, management, marketing, communications, human resources, computer science, mathematics, securities trading and research, portfolio management, or another technical area. Applicants must have a high school GPA of 2.75 or greater. Scholastic achievement, financial need, and entreprerneurial skill, and a passion for global commerce are all important considerations.The committee will be looking for those enterprising students with a creative business idea, not the best GPA. 03/02/2012 ZONTA CLUB OF ANCHORAGE: Cash award of $500. Local winners are then eligible to receive an award at the District Level. Award is open to young women who are 16-20 years old at the time of application. Student must have experience in local or student government. 03/05/2012 THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS SCHOLARSHIP: Through the Looking Glass and its National Center for Parents with Disabilities and their Families are pleased to announce new scholarships specifically for high school seniors and college students who have parents with disabilities. To be eligible, a student must be a high school graduate (or graduating senior) by summer 2012, planning to attend college in Fall 2012 and have at least one parent with a disability. 03/12/2012 DENALI ALASKAN FEDERAL CREDIT UNION SCHOLARSHIP: Five $2,000 scholarships. Applicant must be a high school senior, Alaska resident and primary member of Denali Alaskan. The Scholarship must be used for attending a licensed/certified post-high school program. Applicants must have a minimum of 2.25 GPA and be enrolled as a full-time student. In addition the committee pays attendtion to the student's degree of community involvement, commitment to a healthy lifestyle, and academic potential. SCHOLARSHIPS FOR MILITARY CHILDREN: Dependent, unmarried children of active-duty service members, reservists, guardsmen, retirees, or survivors of service members who died on active duty or while receiving military retired pay, may apply for a scholarship. FORT RICHARDSON SPOUSES CLUB: Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to deserving applicants to further their education at an accredited undergraduate institution. Air Force ROTC Scholarships: The Air Force ROTC High School Scholarship Program provides 3- and 4-year scholarships in three different types to high school seniors. The application process is the same for each type.
· Type 1 – pays full college tuition, most fees and $900 per year for books. Approximately 5 percent of our 4-year scholarship winners will be offered a Type-1 scholarship (mostly in technical fields).
· Type 2 – pays college tuition and most fees up to $15,000 and pays $900 per year for books. Approximately 20 percent of our 4-year scholarship winners will be offered a Type-2 scholarship (mostly in technical fields). If a student attends an institution where the tuition exceeds $15,000 per year, then he/she pays the difference. All 3-year scholarships are Type 2.
· Type 7 – pays full college tuition, fees and $900 per year for books, but the student MUST attend a college/university where the tuition is less than $9,000 per year, OR a public college/university in which the student qualifies for the in-state tuition rate.
If a student receives a Type-7 offer but wishes to attend a college/university where they do not qualify under the guidelines above, the student can convert the 4-Year Type-7 scholarship to a 3-Year Type-2 scholarship. You cannot activate a Type-7 scholarship at a non-qualifying school and pay the difference.
Living Expenses
Upon activation, all scholarship cadets receive a nontaxable monthly allowance (stipend) during the academic year. Currently, the monthly stipend is $300 for freshmen, $350 for sophomores, $450 for juniors and $500 for seniors.
Other Details
All 4-year scholarships activate in the fall of your freshman year. All 3-year scholarships activate in the fall of your sophomore year. All 3-year scholarship designees must complete AFROTC training during their freshman year in order to retain eligibility to activate their scholarships at the start of their sophomore year.
Travel Expenses
All high school scholarship winners are authorized travel pay from your home to your Air Force ROTC detachment. You will receive reimbursement approximately 30 days after the start of school. The following items will be needed to complete an application:
· Social Security Number
· Information on officer training programs (if applicable)
· Information on any arrests you may have had (if applicable)
· Password choice – you will have the ability to save your application and complete it at a later date. Be sure to remember your
password.
This application is for students who will begin college in the fall of 2009. To be eligible you must be either graduating from High School in spring of 2009 or have already graduated from High School and have never been a full time college student. NOTE: For High School seniors that are graduating in 2008 and are planning on attending college full time after graduation from High School, please contact the AFROTC Detachment at the college you plan to attend or email AFROTC for more scholarship opportunities. This application is not for use by active-duty members of the military.
COSTCO SCHOLARSHIP: The Costco Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to highly qualified underrepresented minority students who wish to attend Seattle University or the University of Washington. Students are considered for the Costco Scholarship as part of the normal financial aid process at each of these two universities. To learn more about the

One entry is considered three black and white works illustrating a science fiction or fantasy story with no recurring theme. Your entry may not have been previously published.
