TEST DATES:
PSAT: For Sophomores and Juniors planning to go to college: Saturday, October 17, 2009, Check-in at 7:00am, South High School . Sign-up between Oct. 5 and Oct. 14 in the CRC (C225).
PLAN: For sophomores only who plan to attend college: Tuesday, November 3 (NOTE CHANGE OF DATE) Administered to all 10th graders. Location: South Anchorage High School (test will be given during school hours). No charge.
ASVAB: Career Exploration for 10th-12th grades. October 22, 2009, 7:30a, South High School Library. You must sign-up in advance. Sign-up in the CRC (C225) between October 5 through October 19. This free assessment matches your interests, skills and values with potential careers.
ACT: Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, the ACT will be given at South Anchorage High School free to all Juniors. Call your High School Counselor for more information.
SAT and ACT registration materials: are available in the Career Resource Center and you can register online at http://www.collegeboard.com for the SAT and http://www.actstudent.org for the ACT. Watch those deadlines and plan ahead. Your SAT and ACT scores will be sent to your home address. SAVE these score sheets in your student portfolio for future use.

TEST PREPARATION TOOLS/SITES :
SAT I Test Prep: Two sessions: Saturdays, Feb. 6- Feb. 27 11a-3p and Saturdays, March 27 - April 17, 11a-3p. Held at Dimond High School. Registration through www.uaonline.alaska.edu. This 15-hour SAT I prep course will prepare you to take the Scholastic Aptitude Test I, and provide you with the following skills: Test-taking tips and strategies, diagnostic testing for math and verbal reviews, problem-solving practice and discussion of the college application process.
SAT/ACT PowerPrep Program: The Warrick Dunn Foundation has extended the National SAT/ACT sponsorship program, available to all local high school students. To learn more about the SAT/ACT PowerPrep Program – go to www.eKowledge.com/nfl – enter code3A3949A2B72. The programs provide video help in preparing for the college board tests. They retail between $200 and $300 but the code listed eliminates the retail cost. There is a processing fee of $13.84 for materials, shipping, and customer support.
SAT-ACT POCKET PREP – Thanks to the PTSO, the Career Resource Center has a Pocket Prep (Interactive Handheld Tutor) available for students. The Pocket Prep is a great way to hone your skills and take practice tests. See Ms. Young in the CRC (C225) if you would like to utilize this great tool.

SOAR is a free program for all ASD families that allows students access to assessments and tutorials to improve Math and Reading Skills for students in grades 3 through high school. The Princeton Review, one of the nation's preeminent providers of SAT prep classes, is donating 25 licenses for its on-line test prep course with over 30 hours of instruction to help students prepare for the SAT or ACT.

WIN: (To help refresh skills for the Accuplacer): ASD has set up accounts for all 11th and 12th grade students. You start by testing to see how far you can go. SAT PREPARATION COURSE - HOLY ROSARY ACADEMY: Course intended to prepare students for the October, 2009 SAT Test. Program fee is $800.00 for 48 hours of instruction and diagnostice testing.
