Pick up the SAHS Test "memo" with all 2011-2012 test dates/registration deadlines/costs and registration forms at the CRC (C225)

TEST DATES:

 

SAT and ACT registration materials: are available in the Career Resource Center. You can register online at http://www.collegeboard.com for the SAT and http://www.actstudent.org for the ACT. Watch those deadlines and plan ahead. South Anchorage High School code is 020365. Your SAT and ACT scores will be sent to your home address or e-mail. SAVE these score sheets in your student portfolio for future use.

PLAN: The practice ACT - for sophomores planning to go to college. Saturday, November 12, 2011, South Anchorage High School, no charge. The PLAN provides students a Career Interest Inventory to help them explore personally relevant career options; High School Course/Grade Information which helps evaluate course-taking patterns in light of recommended core courses and a Needs Assessment which collects information about the students’ perceived needs. Parents and students can go to www.actstudent.org/plan/ for information and help interpreting the results. Sign-up is in C225 between Wednesday, Nov 2 and Thursday, November 10. Please have your student come to C225 to sign-up.

WORKKEYS: A job skills assessment for juniors only (optional for seniors), November 10, 2011, South Anchorage High School, no charge. Seniors may qualify for higher paying jobs, or even the Alaska Performance Scholarship, based on the results of this test. Sign up is with Mr. Hemry in D220. ACCUPLACER: Tuesday, November 1, 2011, 2:15pm. Offered free of charge after school at South High School on Tuesday, November 1, the Accuplacer is the test used by UAA to place students in math and English. This opportunity is for JUNIORS ONLY who would like to see if they are on track for college freshman level courses in math and English. The purpose of this free opportunity is to provide juniors with feedback while they have the time to make any necessary adjustments. Sign-up with Ms. Young in C225. 30 seats available.

ASVAB: Thursday, January 26, 2012 - Career Exploration for 10th-12th grades. 7:30a, South High School Library. You must sign-up in advance. Sign-up in the CRC (C225) between Monday, January 9 and Friday, January 20, 2012. This free assessment matches your interests, skills and values with potential careers. Initial test is three hours - students will miss 1st and 3rd periods. Results session is Wednesday, Feb 1 from 12:40-2:00pm. It is very important that students attend the results session to take advantage of the information provided.

FREE SAT Practice Opportunity – Saturday, September 17, 2011: Want to take the SAT for free – just for practice? Sylvan Learning Center is offering our students the opportunity to take the SAT for practice, for free. The scores will be delivered back to your student within a couple days of taking the test and will NOT be reported to any schools or recorded anywhere. You will be under no pressure from or obligation to Sylvan Learning Center. You must sign-up to take advantage of this opportunity (so that Sylvan can plan for the number of students). Sign-up will take place September 6- September 16, 2011 in the Career Resource Center (C225). The practice test will take place in the South Anchorage High School Library. Check-in will begin at 8:30am. The test will take approximately 3 ½ hours (plan to be done by 1:00pm).

PSAT: For Sophomores and Juniors planning to go to college: Saturday, October 15, 2011. Check-in at 7:30am, South High School . Sign-up between Oct. 3 and Oct. 12 in the CRC (C225). Cost: $16 - ($20 day of*) *walk-in IF space available.

FRONTIER TUTORING: SAT/ACT preparation. Located at 5313 ARctic Blvd., Ste, 102. Call 1-888-805-4855 or visit www.frontiertutoring.com. SAT Prep class will be offered beginning Feb 4 in preparation for the March, May and June SAT. Two more classes will begin on March 31 and April 28, with early enrollment running until March 16 and April 13, respectively. $395 per student, with a $50 discount for students enrolling prior to December 15, 2011. includes the official Collegeboard SAT Prep book. Rates are $38/session with a $10/month charge.

SAT I Test Prep: Held at Dimond High School. Registration through www.uaonline.alaska.edu. This 15-hour SAT I prep course will prepare you to take the Scholastic Aptitude Test I, and provide you with the following skills: Test-taking tips and strategies, diagnostic testing for math and verbal reviews, problem-solving practice and discussion of the college application process. SAT PREPARATION COURSE - HOLY ROSARY ACADEMY: - Course intended to prepare students for the SAT Test. Program fee is $800.00 for 48 hours of instruction and diagnostic testing. Testing takes place on Saturdays 9-1p, course instruction in Monday through Thursdays, 6-9pm. Contact Catherine Neumayr at 360-9610 or e-mail cneumayronice@yahoo.com for more information or to register. Registration limited to the first 15 students to sign-up.

SAT/ACT PowerPrep Program: The Warrick Dunn Foundation has extended the National SAT/ACT sponsorship program, available to all local high school students. To learn more about the SAT/ACT PowerPrep Program – go to www.eKowledge.com/nfl – enter code3A3949A2B72. The programs provide video help in preparing for the college board tests. They retail between $200 and $300 but the code listed eliminates the retail cost. There is a processing fee of $13.84 for materials, shipping, and customer support.

SAT-ACT POCKET PREP – Thanks to the PTSO, the Career Resource Center has a Pocket Prep (Interactive Handheld Tutor) available for students. The Pocket Prep is a great way to hone your skills and take practice tests. See Ms. Young in the CRC (C225) if you would like to utilize this great tool.

DIGITAL PIPELINE: Help for the PSAT, SAT, ACT, ASVAB, AP

lwww.SoarAtHome.org. SOAR is a free program for all ASD families that allows students access to assessments and tutorials to improve Math and Reading Skills for students in grades 3 through high school. The Princeton Review, one of the nation's preeminent providers of SAT prep classes, is donating 25 licenses for its on-line test prep course with over 30 hours of instruction to help students prepare for the SAT or ACT.

COMPASS Test: Placement test for math and english. Mat-Su College Testing Center, 745-9713 for current hours or to schedule a test. $10 fee, picture ID presented at time of testing.

WORKKEYS PREP: CR101 is the only program endorsed by ACT as preparation for the WorkKeys exam. In addition to quizzes and practice for the foundational skills of Applied Math, Reading for Information and Locating Information, CR101 also has modules that address "soft skills" like financial literacy, listening, observation, teamwork, etiquette, etc. The practice modules either be automatically assigned by a pretest, assigned by a teacher, or self selected by the students.
