New ASD school allows students to simultaneously earn high school and college credit

The Anchorage School District is accepting applications for Alaska Middle College School (AMCS) for the upcoming 2017-18 school year. High school juniors and seniors who attend the school will take courses on the University of Alaska Anchorage’s (UAA) Chugiak-Eagle River campus while earning high school and college credit at the same time. The opportunity to earn college credit is offered at no cost to individual ASD students.

Prom Dresses for Students in Need

Becca's Closet is an organization which collects formal dresses for high school students who might not otherwise be able to afford to attend prom or homecoming. Items accepted include semi-formal or formal gowns, shawls, shoes or accessories that are appropriate for a high school prom or homecoming.


Teens in need of dresses can browse Becca's Closet's inventory from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Education Center on the following dates: March 25 and April 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29. For more information, email or visit the group's Facebook page.
