Summer school is open to Anchorage School District high school students in grades 8 through 12. Summer school is an excellent opportunity for students who need to work on grade improvement, get remediation to help pass the HSGQE, participate in enrichment courses, participate in work experience, and/or to take required courses over the summer to free up scheduling in the fall.

Students may attend summer school at the school site that is convenient for them:

Classes

High school courses in social studies, mathematics, language arts, physical education, science, job co-op, art, and electives are offered. Complete course lists appear on the summer school registration form. It is possible to earn 1/2 credit for each summer school course; in some instances, you may be able to complete 2 courses during the summer.

Fees

$85 for each class. A parent may apply for a fee waiver or deferred tuition due to an economic hardship.

Enrollment

If you do not complete the registration process before the regular school year is over, you will still have an opportunity to register at your summer school site on Friday, June 6 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Classes are filled on a first come, first served basis. If you wait until the last day to register, you may not be able to enroll in the class(es) that you need; the classes may be full. Classes are subject to consolidation or cancellation due to low enrollment.

How to register:

1. Pick up a registration form from your school counselor or download it above.
2. Determine which class(es) you will take and have your parent/guardian sign the registration form.
3. A parent/guardian signature is required.
4. Take the registration fee, $85 per course, to your school's Stock Clerk (Financial Data Control Clerk). Make checks and money orders payable to Anchorage School District.
5. Take the completed registration form to your school counselor and receive a confirmed and signed schedule. If registering for an online course via COHO, you will need to fax your completed COHO Online Course Application to the COHO office at 742-3029.
