General information

Anchorage School District high school students in grades 8 through 12. Enrollment in on-site credit recovery and extended year courses is limited to ASD high school students who failed a semester class and need to earn a passing grade, or who need remediation. Students will be able to select from two different sessions. Each session will last about three weeks and students will be required to attend all day.

Programs

Classes, with exception of online courses, will be 8 a.m. – 2:40 p.m.

 

Extended year

(May 23 - June 3)

Available at all comprehensive high schools and SAVE, Benny Benson, AVAIL/Crossroads. Opportunities for students who earned an "F" and need to complete a project or a major assignment to pass the course. Emphasis and priority given to 9th and 10th graders.

 

Credit recovery and remediation

(June 8 - 24 or July 6 - 22)

Enrollment is limited to ASD high school students who failed a semester class and need to earn a passing grade, or who need remediation. To be held at East, Chugiak, Dimond and Bartlett high schools. These will be taught by our very best teachers. Students will be able to select from two different sessions. Each session will last about three weeks and students will be required to attend all day.

 

Summer Career Camps

(June 8 – June 24)

About 20 different half credit career, technical and vocational education courses will be offered. Open to grades 9 – 12 including incoming ninth-graders. See the course list (PDF).

 

Online courses

(flexible)

All students wanting to enroll in a summer school course to provide flexibility to their schedule, to improve a grade or to take a class for the fun of it will have the opportunity to take the class online through MyHigh. Classwork must be completed by July 22. ALL online courses are self-paced with access to a highly qualified ASD teacher. See the MyHigh website for more information about this program. *Registration is closed for MyHigh classes, except Digital Photography and Individual Recreational Activities. Registration for these classes will be accepted at the regular summer school sites on June 3 from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.

Fees

$90 for each class per session. A parent may apply for a fee waiver or
deferred tuition due to an economic hardship.

 

Registration

If you do not complete registration before the end of the regular school year, you may register at your summer school site on Friday, June 3 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration for online (MyHigh) classes has closed with exceptions (see *note at right). Classes are filled on a first come, first served basis. If you wait until the last day to register, you may not be able to enroll in the class(es) that you need; the classes may be full. Classes are subject to consolidation or cancellation due to low enrollment.

 

  1. Get a registration form from your school counselor or download here:
  2. A parent/guardian signature is required.
  3. Take the registration fee of $90 each class per session to your school’s financial clerk. Make checks and money orders payable to Anchorage School District.
  4. Take the your receipt when meeting with your counselor to review your completed application. If requesting an online course via MyHigh, you will also need to complete the Student Information form so the Myhigh team will know where to send your login information when your class starts.

Locations

Students may attend summer school at the school site that is most convenient for them or take online courses through MyHigh.
