Assisting with the academic needs of Native students

 

The Native Advisory Committee (NAC) is comprised of six (6) parents/guardians of Alaska Native/American Indian students enrolled in the Anchorage School District (ASD), three (3) Alaska Native/American Indian ASD secondary students and two (2) ASD teachers or guidance counselors of Alaska Native/American Indian ASD students. The NAC serves as an advisory committee to the Title VII Indian Education program and the Anchorage School District. 

 

The stated purpose of the committee is to review and make recommendations to the Title VII Indian Education program and to the Anchorage School Board relating to the education of Alaska Native/American Indian students in grades K through 12 district-wide. It is comprised of volunteer citizens who meet the following qualifications:

  • Interested in improving education for Alaska Native/American Indian students and committed to the purpose of the Title VII Indian Education Program;
  • Willing and able to attend meetings regularly;
  • Be committed to working toward increased communication with the community in the conduct of NAC affairs.

 

The NAC meets at least once a month, with occasional meetings for subcommittees. The total time requirement of members is approximately 3 to 6 hours monthly.

The NAC generally meets once a month on Thursday evenings at the ASD Education Center. Special meetings may be called by the chair from time to time. Please note that dates and locations are subject to change.
