All Grade Levels:Do2Learn provides online activities and printable worksheets for social skills and behavior, learning songs and games, academic worksheets, picture cards for visual schedules and daily living skills, and transition materials. This is the Coronavirus social story to help students with disabilities understand what is happening. These activities are designed to help students with learning disabilities build skills in reading, phonemic awareness, sight words, vocabulary, and comprehension.
As we face unprecedented times and seek solutions for meeting student needs during this national health crisis, we want to assure you that Anchorage School District remains committed to ensuring that students with disabilities have access to the school’s education program. As the District plans for and implements supplemental supports and instruction, this includes students who have an IEP (Individual Education Program) as well as those students receiving services under Section 504. To that end, we want to share information regarding these services.
IEP and 504 Meetings
All IEP and 504 meetings will be held via Zoom or telephone. Staff will reach out to you to determine the best mode of communication for your student’s services conference.
Online Distance Learning Model
The online learning model will provide instruction based on your student’s current needs. Students may receive online or virtual instruction, instructional telephone calls, and other curriculum-based instructional activities, as well as special education and related services that can be accessed during the district’s period of distance learning based on your student’s IEP.
By participating in group special education tele-conferencing sessions, you as the parent/guardian are consenting for your student to receive instruction in group sessions with other students. In addition, you also agree to maintain confidentiality of all student information you may learn during the sessions. If you do not want your student to participate in this manner due to concerns related to confidentiality, please contact your student’s special education teacher.
IEP Services, including Related Services
- Your student’s team will contact you this week or early next week to make decisions about what services will be provided to your student during this period of distance learning.
- During this conference, the team will decide how to address goals and objectives, how much time will be provided, and which instructional method(s) are most appropriate.
- You will receive a Prior Written Notice after the conference is held.
- If you believe an IEP meeting is necessary, please communicate this with your team. You are welcome to contact Special Education Administration for support if needed.
- Once the school building re-opens, all services as specified in your student’s current IEP will resume.
Again, it is our desire to support our students and families. If you need more information, please contact your school team or the Special Education Department (742-4236).
With regards,
Special Education Administration
