Full-day preschool and childcare options

From school day to full day
The Anchorage School District is expanding preschool and early learning options thanks to powerful community partnerships.
With support from the Anchorage Child Care and Early Education Fund, unused classrooms are becoming places where preschool children learn, grow and get ready for what’s next, including new full-day options at select schools to support working families.
How it works
Students attend half-day preschool at Airport Heights or Tudor elementary school. Once the preschool day ends, students will continue to receive childcare at the same school, operated by a community partner, until the end of the school day at 2:30 p.m. or the end of the work day at 6 p.m.
At Airport Heights Elementary, Hillcrest Youth Center will operate the childcare. At Tudor Elementary, RurAL CAP will operate the childcare.

Who qualifies

Children ages 4-5 years old who haven’t started kindergarten.
To attend the Airport Heights program, families must live in the Airport Heights, Williwaw or Wonder Park elementary school boundaries.
To attend the Tudor program, families must live in the Tudor Elementary School Boundary.
What are the hours of operation?
- Preschool: 8 a.m. – noon (9 a.m.-noon on Mondays)
- After-preschool care: Noon-2:30 p.m. (end of school day) OR noon-6 p.m. (end of work day) End time is based on parent preference.
Children in the program will be supervised at the same school location for the full day.
All programs follow the ASD school calendar. Preschool and childcare are not available on no-school days.

What is the cost?

Fees for after-preschool childcare are determined by the organizations that run the care programs.
Additionally, the full-day care partnership receives funding from the Anchorage Child Care and Early Education Fund. This fund uses dollars collected from the Municipality of Anchorage’s marijuana tax revenue to support child care and early childhood education.
