Middle School Gifted Programs

Middle School Gifted Opportunities

Students are exited from the gifted program and IGNITE at the end of elementary school, except for those attending the Highly Gifted programs at Romig Middle School and West High School. Interested families should inquire at their neighborhood middle school about opportunities for acceleration and enrichment.

Highly Gifted at Romig

Students qualified for the Highly Gifted Program at Romig Middle School are placed in language arts and science classes with only highly gifted students. This allows teachers to differentiate for the academic and social needs of the highly gifted learner. Please see the Romig Highly Gifted page for more information about the program.

Student Evaluation for Highly Gifted

Students are placed in the Highly Gifted Program according to the matrix below. Students must accumulate 4 total points. Points must come from both ability AND achievement.

Ability:

99th percentile - 3 points

98th percentile - 2 points

Achievement:

99th percentile - 3 points

98th percentile - 2 points

96th percentile - 1 point

Continuation from Rogers Park

Students who have been successful in the Roger’s Park Highly Gifted program do not need to retest for Romig.

Transportation

Transportation is not provided for zone-exempt students attending Romig Middle School and/or West High School. 

Enrollment for Highly Gifted at Romig 

Students who qualify for the Gifted Program at Romig need to apply for the spring Romig HG Lottery and accept within the ASD lottery timeline.
