Middle School Gifted Programs

Middle School Gifted Opportunities

Students are exited from the gifted program and IGNITE at the end of elementary school, except for those who will be attending the Highly Gifted programs at Romig Middle School and West High School. Interested families should inquire at their neighborhood middle school about opportunities for acceleration and enrichment.

Highly Gifted at Romig

Students qualified for the Highly Gifted Program at Romig Middle School are placed in language arts and science classes with other highly gifted students. This allows teachers to differentiate for the academic and social needs of the highly gifted learner. Please see the Romig Highly Gifted page for more information about the program.

Student Evaluation for Highly Gifted

In order to qualify for the mid-level Highly Gifted delivery model, students must meet the following criteria:

Reading Achievement: Student reading scores are evaluated for the prior year. Students must earn ≥ 96th percentile.

Ability: Student verbal and composite scores are evaluated from an Ability Test completed within the last 3 years. Students must earn ≥ 98th percentile.

Transition from Elementary Highly Gifted: For students transitioning from the elementary Highly Gifted program at Rogers Park, successful performance in the 5th grade HG program, as evidenced by an A-B average in all core subject areas, will be used to qualify a student in lieu of testing.

Transportation: Transportation is not provided for zone-exempt students attending Romig Middle School and/or West High School.

Enrollment for Highly Gifted (Lottery)

Students who qualify for the Gifted Program at Romig must apply for the spring Romig HG Lottery and accept within the ASD lottery timeline.
