The Anchorage School District is adjusting boundaries for the 2026–27 school year to help balance enrollment and reduce overcrowding at Romig Middle School and West High School.

Over time, some schools have grown much larger while others now serve fewer students. Adjusting boundaries helps restore balance so every student can learn in a safe, welcoming, and well-resourced school.

This work is about providing strong learning environments across Anchorage, not just for today’s students but for future generations as well.

Taku Elementary, Rogers Park Elementary, Wendler Middle, Hanshew Middle, Romig Middle, Bettye Davis East Anchorage High, Service High, and West Anchorage High.

With the change, Rogers Park and Taku elementary students will move on to the same middle school as their peers. Currently, the elementary boundaries are divided and students move on to multiple middle schools.

Additionally, theboundary adjustments will:

· Ease overcrowding at Romig Middle School and West High School

· Strengthen schools with lower enrollment by welcoming more students

· Shorten travel times for some students by aligning them with schools closer to home

· Support balanced class sizes and access to consistent programs and services

Students who are currently enrolled at Romig and West may choose to stay enrolled until they finish their education at that school, however the student must provide his/her own transportation to and from school (no bus service will be available to Romig or West. Bus service will be available for Rogers Park families to Wendler/East, and for Taku families to Hanshew/Service.

Bus service only will be provided to the new designated schools of Goldenview and South starting in the 2026-27 school year.
