Department Overview
The Anchorage School District (ASD) operates federally funded Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) that served selected Title 1 elementary schools. The purpose of the program is to provide targeted academic support, social-emotional learning (SEL), enrichment opportunities, and family engagement activities during out-of-school time in support of student success and well-being.
The program is provided at no charge to participating families.
Afterschool Program
The goal of our after-school program is to:
- Support growth in Reading and Math.
- Foster social-emotional skills through enrichment activities.
- Increase students' sense of connection, belonging, and safety at school.
- Encourage interest in education and related careers for program aides.
In addition to academic and social-emotional learning (SEL) enrichment, students participate in weekly clubs such as Art, Gardening, Cooking, Music, LEGO activities, Robotics, Theater, Outdoor exploration, Alaska Native Cultural activities, and International activities.
We work with partners across Anchorage that include the Alaska Botanical Garden, BLM's Campbell Creek Science Center, the Alaska Afterschool Network, Alaska Junior Theater, Nordic Ski Association Alaska, and many others to expand opportunities for student learning, enrichment, and exploration.
A broad overview of our weekly schedule is shown below. Please note that the blocks scheduled may vary by school site.
