Maintain Accountability/Transparency

Maintenance and Operations will strive to be model organizations, meeting the highest standards established by industry and peers, and work to adopt “best practices” for business and workflow methodologies.   Accountability and transparency will be forefront in this development process.

Prioritize Customer Service

Maintenance and Operations will be committed to being “service providers” that will work to advance client relationships through increased communication and responsiveness.  We will prioritize all work according to safety, mission, budget, and worker availability.

Improve Safety/Training

Maintenance and Operations will continue to improve safety and provide personal and professional training that benefits workers and the district.

The Maintenance department of the Anchorage School District is composed of approximately 130 skilled craftspeople in 17 different trades. Together, we are responsible for 100 facilities totaling 8,000,000 square feet and 1700 acres of land. Our goal is to professionally maintain the facilities and grounds during the day-to-day operations. We strive to provide the highest quality of service to our schools, community, and our students.

Craft Shops within the Maintenance Department:

Automation, Carpentry, Electrical, Electronics, Fire & Security, Fire Extinguishers, Glass, HVAC, Lock & Key, Mechanical, Paint, Plumbing, Roofing, Vehicle Maintenance

The Operations department provides, on a day-to-day basis, services for cleaning and security for schools and other district facilities. We are a dynamic department that uses high productivity technology to clean more square footage today with reduced personnel.  We have worked hard to develop a pest control system that conforms to a highly regulated environment and an integrated waste management plan, that includes district-wide mixed-paper recycling, to divert hundreds of tons of waste from the landfill and save the department money.

Operations department goals:

  • We clean for sanitation first, appearance second.
  • We try to fully meet the demands and expectations of our customers.
  • We continuously strive to improve our value to the District by improving service and reducing problems, errors and waste in the process.
