District EOC

Anchorage School District Emergency Operations Center

When emergencies happen, chaos isn’t an option. That’s where the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) comes in.

The EOC is the district’s central hub for managing and coordinating responses to emergencies, such as earthquakes, wildfires, and volcanic ashfall. Staffed by trained district personnel, the EOC works behind the scenes to keep schools informed, safe, and running as smoothly as possible when things get unpredictable.

Whether it’s severe weather, natural disasters, or a community-wide event, the EOC brings together experts and resources to make fast, informed decisions. It’s how we support students, staff, and families during times when clear communication and calm leadership matter most.

How We Activate the EOC

The EOC isn’t always on—it’s activated when an incident:

  • Affects multiple schools or district-wide operations
  • Requires coordination with emergency services or city agencies
  • Involves ongoing disruptions to safety, transportation, or communication
  • Needs centralized decision-making beyond routine procedures

Activation decisions are made by ASD leadership based on the scale, complexity, and potential impact of the event.

Once active, the EOC becomes the district’s nerve center—managing response efforts, streamlining communication, and supporting schools across the system.
