Raptor Visitor Management System
Background
Student and staff safety is our top priority. In order to ensure that our schools are safe places for our students and staff, we are taking some additional steps to ensure we know who is in our buildings at all times.
The District is implementing a visitor management system to aid in the standardization of visitor check-in procedures in all schools, which complies with Board Policy 3515.5
Benefits of the Visitor System
- Quick and accurate visitor identity verification.
-
Enhanced ability to maintain a secure environment.
-
Accurate records of building occupants for emergency response purposes.
How the Visitor System Works
-
The visitor management system records the visitor’s name, date of birth and last four digits of the ID and checks against a national database of registered sex offenders.
-
Adherence to School Board policy regarding sex offenders on campus.
-
No other data from IDs is gathered or recorded, ensuring privacy and confidentiality.
Districtwide Implementation
- The Anchorage School Board approved the funding for district-wide implementation during the April 9, 2024 School Board meeting memorandum #124
-
The district-wide implementation of Raptor visitor management kiosks will begin in the fall of 2024 with additional schools being added each week. The rollout is expected to be completed by early spring semester.
Entry Requirements
All adult visitors must present and scan a government-issued photo ID upon entry when visiting a school during school hours.

What is the Raptor Volunteer Management System?
Raptor Volunteer Management is a new module that works with the Raptor Visitor Management System to streamline the application and management of volunteers. The system includes an online application, volunteer time tracking, and reporting. The Raptor Volunteer Management module was piloted at three schools: Dimond High, Central Middle, and Rabbit Creek Elementary during spring 2025.
Is there a new volunteer application?
Yes, schools will use the Raptor online volunteer application (English) or the Spanish version to complete the online application using a web browser starting on July 1, 2025. Schools will use the application linked on the Community Volunteers webpage, Community Volunteers, until the new system starts to be used on July 1, 2025.
Can the volunteer application be completed on a mobile device?
Yes, but it is not recommended as some of the application screens are hard to read. If using a smartphone or tablet, the device needs to be in landscape mode or some text and buttons on application screens may be inaccessible. It is recommended that applicants use a computer web browser to complete the application.
Why do I have to give my social security number?
When you provide your Social Security Number (SSN) it is used by ASD’s nationwide vendor, JDP, for a National Criminal Database Search, National Sex Offender Search, Address Verification, Multiple Name Check, and Terrorist Watch Lists. JDP uses the SSN to perform an SSN trace, which is a standard first step in verifying a person's identity. This trace helps confirm your identity and also aids in broadening the scope of criminal history searches. JDP does not store your SSN on file. Instead, they use it to run the trace and then discard the information.
What if a volunteer needs help filling out the new application?
If a volunteer needs assistance completing the Raptor online volunteer application, front office staff can walk the volunteer applicant through the process, on a school computer, using a web browser to complete the application.
How long does it take for a volunteer to be approved?
The volunteer screening process takes approximately 3 days.
How are volunteer hours tracked?
Hours are tracked every time a volunteer signs in at the school.
How do I add volunteer hours for volunteer work done off-site?
When a volunteer is approved, a Volunteer Portal email is also sent to the volunteer. A volunteer can login to their volunteer portal and add hours for volunteer work done off-site.
What are the volunteer opportunities?
Contact your school directly to find out where/when volunteers are needed.
