Middle School

  • Middle school is a transitional period between elementary school and high school. Middle school traditionally includes grades 6, 7, and 8. Mears Middle School includes grades 7 and 8. One benefit of the middle school model is a larger offering of classes compared to elementary school. First there are the core classes, math, science, social studies, and english/language arts. Math, science, and english/language arts are offered at several different ability levels such as gifted, grade level, and multi-tiered support classes. In addition to the core classes students at Mears can choose from many elective classes. Fine art, Design and Modeling, Automation and Robotics, Family Consumer Science, School Business Partnership, Video Production, Computer Technology, Spanish, Japanese, Band, Orchestra, Choir and many others. Please visit our elective page for a complete list.

Another benefit of middle school is an array of sports, clubs and activities both during the school day and after school. For a complete list look at the Sports and Activities pages.

What is probably Middle schools greatest benefit is the team structure. At Mears, a team consists of approximately 150 students who share the same core class teachers. A list of teachers and the teams they are a part of is available here
