What should my student doing on Wednesdays?
Students are expected to work on school work during the day, they will not have sychronous instruction, though. There will be times when a special meeting might happen, but you will be given a lot of advance notice. In September there will be grade level assemblies to address this issue and provide additional supports for students. Please help your student maintain the same schedule Monday - Friday, as this will help establish a routine that will become normal and easy. Students should be working on projects, ALEKs, and iReady, as well as reading and regular assignments. If your student needs more direct guidance, please call the school and we will help you!
What happens if ASD decides it is safe for students to return Face-To-Face and our family is not ready to have that level of exposure?
Anchorage STrEaM Academy is dedicated to serving our students where they are comfortable. If that means that you wish to continue remote instruction, we will arrange with their teachers to continue recording and broadcasting live, synchronous lectures, while they are teaching face-to-face. We call this option our hybrid plan. It was specifically designed to help our students stay with their STrEaM teachers and yet remain in a virtual learning environment. ASA will remain completely remote through the first quarter, no matter what the ASD decides. We will re-evaluate the risk level in October to determine next steps for our families.
Will STrEaM open another on-line store to order STrEaM Gear this fall?
YES! The on-line STrEaM Gear Store is open the entire month of September. Follow the link on the front page of our website to place your order. Orders will be printed and delivered to ASA by the third week in October. We will call you when your order is ready to be picked up. If you need us to deliver your order, we will be happy to do that as well! Thank you for asking about ordering STrEaM Gear.
When will student Chromebooks be available for pick-up?
Chromebooks will be available for pick-up on or after Monday, August 17th after 9am. Please call ahead to let us know when you will arrive and we will meet you in the drive-through. we are filling the requests as quickly as we can.
Are students going to have the opportunity to engage in small groups or 1:1 with each while in the virtual setting?
The short answer is YES. While students are participating in Synchronous On-Line learning in Zoom teachers will use Break-Out rooms for small group discussions. One of the aspects of our program is the strongly agreed upon belief and use of collaborative learning models.
When we are face-to-face again will my kid be required to wear a mask?
As long as the active number of new covid cases is greater than 14 new cases a day, and local government is requiring masks in all public spaces, students will also be required to wear masks while inside. In an effort to reduce face touching and mask contamination, we will ask that students leave their mask untouched and on their face all day, unless they are eating or drinking. When a student is eating or drinking they can take their mask off by grasping the earloops and putting them into a clean ziplock bag or clipped to a lanyard hanging from their neck. Staff will encourage students to wash their hands prior to adjusting or taking off their mask. There is a sink in every room.
When will we have the opportunity to have optional face-to-face outdoor adventures?
We can not begin meeting in small face-to-face (F2F) groups until after the mayor’s 4-week reset. We will be taking direction from the district: when sports and after school activities are approved for a go ahead, that is our clue that we can begin scheduling small group outdoor adventures.
What school supplies does my student need?
There is a basic school supply list on our website - Families>Parent Information. If your student needs a chromebook, there is a link on the front page of our website to sign up for one which you can pick-up Aug 17th, 18th or 19th. If you need it delivered please call the school and let Mrs. Biondich know to get you on a delivery schedule. If your family has other needs, please ask Mrs. Biondich.
When will we learn how to navigate Canvas?
Once the teachers are back and have completed Canvas training and set-up, they will be reaching out to families to help you get set up! Links were added to the Student Channel and Parent Channel of this website to help train and assist students and families with Canvas.
If my kid doesn’t have math until Q2, can they have access to a math program to start practicing?
Yes! All students in 7th and 8th grade will get access to their ALEKs and iReady accounts to start math during asynchronous learning times. In the 6th grade, Ms. Staker will get students set up with iReady and other programs to help them practice math when they are not receiving direct instruction. A link to Khan Academy has been added to the Remote Learning page on the Families Channel of this website.
