ASD schools collect more than 20,000 pounds of food for Day of Caring
Students and staff at 17 ASD schools and the Education Center collected 20,452 pounds of food for United Way's Day of Caring annual food drive last Friday. All food collected will benefit the Food Bank of Alaska.
SAVE High School traditionally collects the most pounds per student, this year coming in at 3,448 pounds of food donated by the 260-student body.
Romig Middle School tallied 5,172 pounds of food in their collection drive this year, which included a financial donation from Alaska Rubber & Supply, a School Business Partner, which was the equivalent of 3,500 pounds of food.
ASD schools have participated in the Day of Caring community service project for the past 10 years.
Chugiak High School staff and students collected donations and then competed in a canned food sculpture contest during a Homecoming pep assembly. Pictured is a sculpture created by the junior class.
