Community members, business leaders and parents are invited to visit any ASD school during the month of February to learn more about Anchorage’s public schools. Tours are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on every Tuesday at every school. All schools also will hold an evening tour at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 23.

“With more than 130 schools and programs, our schools are remarkably diverse and offer a wide range of opportunities,” said Superintendent Ed Graff. “I hope community members will take the opportunity to see first-hand the amazing things that are happening in our schools by visiting us in February.”

At its meeting last Thursday, the Anchorage School Board designated February as Visit Our Schools Month in the Anchorage School District. While schools welcome members of the public year-round, the resolution supports the third annual effort during the month of February to provide parents and community members the opportunity to learn more about the many educational opportunities available to them.

Mayor Ethan Berkowitz also issued a proclamation designating February as Visit Our Schools Month in the Municipality of Anchorage.

Prospective parents may use the tours as an opportunity to visit a variety of schools and programs in order to make informed decisions about which learning environments best suit their children's needs. Enrollment in a school or program outside of a neighborhood attendance area requires a lottery application, due March 24.

Last year, schools welcomed more than 2,100 visitors as part of Visit Our Schools Month.
