Highland Academy Charter School, previously known as Highland Tech Charter School, recently changed its name to better reflect the school’s philosophy, mission and vision.

Highland Academy is a small, integrated, competency-based school for students in grades 6-12. The school’s focus is on students taking ownership of their learning.

“Our program is a rigorous, competency-based program where students stick to concepts until they can prove they’ve learned it,” said Principal Michael Shapiro. “While we do integrate technology into our lessons, this name change is a better reflection of who we are.”

The school will celebrate the name change at an upcoming “reveal” during a back-to-school event, scheduled for the week before school starts in August.
