On this past Saturday 15-20 members of the South Boys Basketball Program shopped on behalf of an Adopted Family which was found through the help of the Salvation Army of Anchorage. With their efforts the boys were able to purchase items ranging from toys and winter clothes for the nine (9) children and some important items for the parents as well.

"We thought it important to give back to those in need, especially this time of year. We're blessed with a group of young men and families that are very community minded. The Salvation Army is a great organization to support," said South's Varsity Coach Taylor Nerland. "and you know with 9 kids they almost have enough for a whole basketball team!"

For the family they adopted the boys purchased and/or made:

  • 12 large (commercial 30 gal size)  bags of gifts, toys, games, books, and clothes (inc. boots and snow gear) for kids
  • Stocking stuffers  including batteries, candy, lotion, bubble bath
  • Complete outfits including shoes and coats for mom and dad (even a watch for dad J )
  • 6 reusable shopping bags full of non perishable snacks and food items
  • Fleece basketball scarves for the entire family, fleece hats for the entire family
  • 9 cozy throw blankets
  • Gift wrap, tags and bows for all

Special thanks to Keri Rochon and the Coaches and Parents that helped out!
