As we prepare for another school year to begin, the Anchorage School District (ASD) would like to remind students and families that their Chromebook is an important learning tool. Staring in sixth grade, students get a Chromebook checked out to them for their educational use. Students keep their device all the way through graduation, or until they leave the District. Taking good care of the device helps keep it working throughout the school year and ensures it is ready when students need it.

Keep Your Chromebook in Good Condition

• Keep food and drinks away. Spills can damage the Chromebook and cause it to stop working.
• Keep it clean. Do not write on, draw on, or place stickers on the Chromebook.
• Protect the screen. Before closing the Chromebook, make sure nothing is on the keyboard. Avoid placing anything in a backpack that could press against the screen.
• Carry it safely. Close the Chromebook before carrying it. Keep it protected in a backpack and avoid dropping or throwing the backpack.
• Store it safely. Keep the Chromebook away from extreme heat and cold. Do not leave it in direct sunlight or in a vehicle overnight.

Come to School Ready with your Chromebook Ready

It is important for students to come to school prepared with their device fully charged. This allows class to begin promptly and reduces interruptions to classroom instruction due to technical difficulties. 

• Charge it each night so it is ready for learning the next day.
• Handle cords carefully. Plug in and unplug chargers and headphones gently. Keep track of your charging cord.

Use It Responsibly

• Use your ASD account. Log in with your own account and keep your password safe.
• Make smart choices online. Remember that information shared or searched online can be saved and tracked. Follow school expectations for responsible device use.
• Ask for help. If the Chromebook is damaged or stops working, let a teacher know and ask for assistance rather than trying to fix it yourself.
