Project Connect

Project Connect builds a path of support for students from active duty military families in grades 7 through 12. The program is funded by a Department of Defense Educational Activity (DODEA) invitational grant to the Anchorage School District.

The effort is directed to the academic, social and emotional needs that come from being a part of the military culture due to frequent transition, mobility and deployment. The project focuses on ASD's two high schools and two middle schools with the highest populations of military connected students (Bartlett and Eagle River High Schools and Central and Gruening Middle Schools).

School Age Programs

Children in kindergarten through fifth grade may take advantage of JBER's School Age Programs. School Age Programs offer before and after-school care during the school year, with costs based on total family income.  

Transportation is provided to and from Orion and Aurora. The School Age Programs also offer summer camps and all-day camps on non-school days and over winter and spring break periods.

The School Age Program is offered at two locations on JBER:

Youth and teen centers

JBER's Youth/Teen Centers offer students age 9 through 18 a safe and positive outlet for free time after school. Centers are filled with opportunities for activities and clubs, skateboarding, field trips, and sound-proof music center.  

There is also computer and Internet access, opportunities to earn funding for college, and space to relax with friends. Sports programs include baseball, flag football, basketball, cheerleading, indoor and outdoor soccer, girls' softball, gymnastics, dance, and Tae Kwon Do. Camp ins, dance clubs, arts and crafts, games, holiday events, and more.

The Military Interstate Children's Compact Commission (MIC3)

The goal of the MIC3 Compact is to replace the widely varying policies affecting transitioning military students. The Compact leverages consistency: It uses a comprehensive approach that provides a consistent policy in every school district and in every state that chooses to join. Alaska is a signatory to the MIC3 Compact.

The Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC)

The Military Child Education Coalition's Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) came directly from the U.S. Army's Secondary Education Transition Study (SETS) findings. The Agreement provides a common structure for information-sharing and reciprocal processes.

JBER School Partnership Program (SPP)

JBER's School Partnership Program is conducted in cooperation with the Anchorage School District's School Business Partnerships. The School Partnership Program contributes military resources and services to ASD schools in order to nurture the intellectual, emotional, social and physical growth of ASD students, to increase public awareness of the military's mission and to foster good relations with the community.
