The Dimond HS boys’ cross country running team is the 2018 D1 Alaska State Champions! It has been 21 years since Dimond last won a cross-country state title.
The state championship was an exciting race to watch unfold as the Dimond boys started out in 3rd place. Throughout the last 3 kilometers, they moved through the pack of runners. When they crossed the finish line, Dimond had placed 5 runners in the top 13 and 7 in the top 30.
Santiago Prosser (2nd at State) was the boys top racer throughout the season placing 1st or 2nd most of the season.
Niko Latva-Kiskola (6th at State) was also consistently one of the top 10 racers in the state.
Clutch performances at the state meet were run by Fred Rygh (10th), George Cvancara (11th), and Dallin Gardiner (13th), which ensured the boys the state title. These three ran their fastest 5-kilometer times ever at the state meet.
Congratulations on your accomplishment and bringing the cross-country running state title to Dimond HS, your dedication and hard work paid off! You are what makes ASD great!
