2018 Scholastic Librarian Champion of Civic Engagement
Michelle Carton from Tudor Elementary School has been named the 2018 Scholastic Librarian Champion of Civic Engagement.
Tudor Elementary is among the 20 most diverse elementary schools in America, and librarian Michelle Carton is bringing a global education to the youngest students.
As an elementary school librarian and founder of Global Education Alaska, Michelle empowers her students to become responsible, engaged citizens of the world through projects such as creating videos that encourage kindness and sustainable development.
During Peace Week International, her students video-conferenced with schools around the world as a key initiative to engage in conversations beyond their community.
Michelle also won the Follett Challenge this spring, earning Tudor Elementary $60,000 in books and video production equipment for the students to learn to produce their own newscasts and update their library.
Congratulations! Thank you for sharing your passion and inspiring students. You make ASD great!
