King Tech 3rd Session After School Program Registration Information 2021

ASD Students and Families,

Great News! King Tech High School is offering a 3rd session for students in grades 9 through 12. Starting on Monday, October 18, King Tech will be offering a number of Career and Technical Education courses after school at King Tech. The 3rd session will run for 8 weeks, Monday through Thursday, from 3-5pm. Bus transportation will be provided. The courses are worth a .5 elective credit and a letter grade for completing the course. Please see your counselor to register and please visit our website for more details.  

Intro to Advertising, Art, and Design

This course explores the commercial art field. Students will be introduced to advertising approaches, color and design theory, marketing, web page layout, symbols, and logo design. Students will produce visual art using graphic design software. 

Intro to Film, Audio, and Video Production

This course explores the skills and knowledge needed to launch a successful career in film, video content creation or television. Students will use the same equipment as industry professionals to produce, shoot, and edit videos and movies.

Intro to Aviation Technology

This course is an introduction to Aviation Science. Students will explore the principals of flight, aircraft pre-flight, meteorology, navigation, weight & balance, power plants, communication, federal aviation air regulations and survival flight planning.  Special emphasis is placed on flying light aircraft in Alaska.

Intro to Carpentry

A hands-on, project-based course that is designed to provide entry-level skills across multiple skilled and technical disciplines. Students will practice a culture of safety while learning how to use different tools associated with construction, architecture, and engineering. 

Certification: Scaffolding and Forklift

Intro to Construction Electricity

Construction Electricity introduces students to the variety of career pathways in the Electrical Industry.  Students will learn and practice electrical and construction site safety practices.  Topics covered include: Introduction to Residential Circuits, Introduction to Blueprints, Series and Parallel Circuits, and Digital Multimeter Certification.

Certification: OSHA 10 & SnapOn Digital Multimeter

Culinary and Hospitality Foundations

Culinary and Hospitality Foundations explores the opportunities in the culinary and hospitality industries.  Students develop hospitality, service and career ready practices while mastering safety and sanitation requirements of the industry.  Students will develop the fundamental kitchen safety skills and learn the foundations of cooking and nutrition.

Certifications: Food Handlers Card

 Emergency Trauma Tech (ETT)

Emergency Trauma Technology (ETT) students learn to be a part of a pre-hospital medical emergency response team. The program is designed for students planning careers in emergency services careers such as firefighting, search and rescue, guiding, emergency medical technology, and positions that involve working at remote sites where urban EMS systems may not be available. The course is about 25% lecture and discussion, and 75% hands-on in which students practice patient assessment and treatment techniques on each other.

Certification: State of Alaska ETT BLS - First Aid/CPR

Dual Credit: University of Alaska Anchorage: EMT A110 Emergency Trauma Technician

Rural Criminal Justice

This course covers the three major components of the criminal justice system: law enforcement, law, corrections. In addition to a survey of the criminal justice system, students will focus on rural policing. Students will also hear from professionals working in various fields in criminal justice.

Certifications: CPR Certification 1st Aide

Intro to Cosmetology

Cosmetology introduces students to a variety of career pathways and develops essential, industry skills.  Students will learn and practice safety and sanitation procedures. Students will learn the basics of haircutting, permanent waving, and manicuring.

3rd Session Attendance Policies

  • ETT – Zero Absences for Certification Preferred (limited make up opportunity on a Saturday with no transportation - date to be determined by the instructor).
  • For all classes, a student may miss up to three days without a note from a medical provider.
  • “No Shows” risk being dropped in the first 2 days.
  • Due to the limited number of spaces available and an extensive wait list, DROP/ADDS will be made on a case-by-case basis. October 21, 2021 will be the last day to DROP/ADD a course.
  • If space in a class becomes available, open seats will be offered to waitlisted students by phone on October 22. The student offered a seat will be expected to begin on 10/25.
