Bowman End of School Year 2019-2020 Message

Hello Bowman Families,

We made it to the end of the school year, finishing off a 4th quarter of the year like no other. The 2019-2020 year has brought many challenges and changes that all families, school staff and the community have had to endure. As a school staff, we appreciate all families support of their child’s learning during these unusual circumstances. We couldn’t have done it without you. Bowman is a large school community that emphasizes positive relationships with our students and families. We are successful as a school because of our positive climate and that has transferred over in a distance learning way at the end of this year. Bowman continues to have a school approval rating from parents above 90%, which always makes us proud. Thank you!

So let’s talk about next school year! Online Registration is NOW OPEN for returning students grades PreK through 6th! Returning students can be registered NOW until August 14th through the Zangle Parent Connection for the 2020-2021school year at The Bowman Office closes 6/1/20 and reopens 7/22/20.  Please remember to register online, contact prior to 6/1/20 if you need help with your PIN.

New-to-district students or students moving over the summer will need to register in-person at their school during districtwide registration in August. Stay tuned for those dates and how that will work due to social distancing guidelines. Registering your child allows them to be placed on a class list. Online registration helps us more accurately predict the number of students who will be at Bowman. Also, please remember that your child will not be placed on a class list or allowed to start school on the first day, if they have not begun the hepatitis A and B immunization and the varicella (chickenpox) vaccination. Alaska regulations require that all students be immunized (4 AAC 06.055).

Our Back-to-School Picnic/Open House is tentatively scheduled for Monday August 17th from 5:00-6:30pm (this is pending social distancing regulations due to the COVID-19 pandemic). Please note that Grades 1st-6th start on Wednesday, August 19th. The annual Back to School event traditionally includes a PTA meeting, staff introductions and the posting of class lists. It will also be an opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and see where their classroom will be. Let’s hope this event can happen.

We wish all of our 6th grade and outgoing families the best of luck! It certainly was not the ending we planned. Have the best summer vacation ever, get out and enjoy Alaska. We hope to see everyone in the fall. With your help and support we have made this a school year to remember for sure. Let’s cross our fingers for “normal” life as we know it to return for all of us!
